The Haven Mental health foundation participated in the 2nd National Mental Health Conference organized by Ministry of Health and the National Mental Health Working Group, that took place at Silver Spring Hotel from the 24th -26th of May 2023

Our Founder and Director Dr. Nabwire Mary Lilian presented the work Haven Uganda is doing to promote the mental health of the young people in Uganda among which is raising mental health awareness through mental health outreaches to schools and universities, Providing counseling and psychological first aid, and linking young people with mental health issues to professional care.

In her presentation, Dr. Nabwire emphasized the need for more funding towards mental health services in the country especially services for young people, need to involve young people with lived experiences in sensitization of the public about mental illness and in mental health services/programs. She also emphasized the need to involve local/community leaders in mental health programs to encourage the public to seek care when mentally sick as this will help to fight stigma associated with mental illness.

She engaged in discussions with other mental health organizations about the existing mental health programs, projects, challenges faced, the gaps, and possible solutions/ strategies targeted towards promoting the mental health of young people in the Uganda.
